Along with oral surgery, Dr. Shapiro is pleased to offer Facial Enhancement and Skin Rejuvenation. Dr. Shapiro has received advanced training to address many of your facial aesthetic and cosmetic concerns. The following treatments are available:
BOTOX® has clinical use as an adjunct in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and bruxism cases, even more so for patients with chronic TMJ and facial pain. BOTOX is a muscle relaxer and when given in typically half the dosage used for facial wrinkle smoothing treatment, it can greatly reduce the intensity of the muscle contractions that contribute to TMJ and facial pain and give the patient significant relief.
BOTOX® has also been used in other areas of dentistry including retraining muscles during orthodontic therapy. BOTOX® and dermal fillers are as essential to aesthetic dentistry cases as porcelain veneers and composite resins.
Juvederm® is the one of the latest dermal fillers introduced to the U.S. market by Allergan, the company which manufactures Botox. It is a hyaluronic acid based filler similar to Restylane®. However, JUVÉDERM® injectable gel employs its unique manufacturing process to provide the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any currently available hyaluronic acid dermal filler for long-lasting results. This advanced manufacturing process also creates a smooth consistency gel that flows consistently and easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel.
Recently approved by the FDA, Juvéderm® injectable gel is a “next-generation” dermal filler. The smooth consistency gel helps to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your "smile lines" or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).
With Juvederm®, the results are immediate with minimal downtime. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing, and the results last up to 6 months or more. Juvederm can be used virtually anywhere on the face, with most success in the lips, nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth), and the marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth downward to the jawline).
Dermal fillers restore volume and fullness to skin. Dermal fillers work to smooth lines, to eliminate wrinkles, to enhance or sculpt lips, enhance shallow contours, soften facial creases, and to improve the appearance of recessed scars. Dermal fillers have been called “liquid facelifts” because they offer many of the benefits of a surgical facelift without the downtime. Although they can’t help with excess sagging skin, these soft tissue fillers can add more volume and provide immediate results at a lower cost than surgery. These treatment aren’t permanent, however, and they must be repeated and maintained. Some dermal fillers are used in conjunction with other skin rejuvenation treatments such as injections of botulinum toxin. Dr. Shapiro will assess your needs and recommend one or a combination of treatments to achieve your desired results.
The cosmetic dental industry is growing at an explosive rate, and dermal fillers are becoming a major player in patient aesthetics.
